’amaBooks Publishers started in 2000, with the objective of promoting good writing in English in Zimbabwe through publication.

102 writers have so far been featured by ’amaBooks, the majority previously unpublished. Several books have won awards, including Zimbabwe Book Publishers Association awards for Literature in English (Short Writings from Bulawayo), Best First Book (Erina), Best Non-fiction (Zimbabwe’s Cultural Heritage) and Best Fiction: Poetry and Drama (Sonatas), and National Arts Merit Awards for Outstanding First Creative Published Book (Sonatas and Dancing with Life). Dancing with Life received an Honourable Mention at the 2009 Noma Awards for African Publishing and Long Time Coming was chosen by New Internationalist as one of the two ’Best Books of 2009’.
