Dario Martinelli (1974) is Adjunct Professor of Musicology and Semiotics at the University of Helsinki. His monographs include "How Musical Is a Whale?" (2002), "Zoosemiotics: Proposals for a Handbook" (2007), "Of Birds, Whales and Other Musicians" (2009), "A critical companion to zoosemiotics: people, paths and ideas" (2010), and "Authenticity, Performance and other double-edged wordsç Essays on Popular Music". He is co-editor-in-chief of "IF - Journal of Italo-Finnish Studies" and Scientific Director of the Umweb Publications. In 2006, he was knighted by the President of Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano, for his contributions to culture and research.
