OVERVIEW Volume two, issue two of Interface, a peer-reviewed e-journal produced and refereed by social movement practitioners and engaged movement researchers, takes the special theme of "Voices of dissent. Activists’ engagements in the creation of alternative, autonomous, radical and independent media", with a dedicated section on international labour communication. This issue, edited by Alice Mattoni, Andrejs Berdnikovs, Michela Ardizzoni and Laurence Cox, includes 26 pieces in English, Russian, Portuguese and German by authors from Austria, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Palestine, Russia, South Korea, Sweden, the UK and the US.
Articles include a substantial editorial overview of the field; articles on the media practices of social movements, networking in social movements, dissident digital culture, media activism in South Korea, feminist grassroots media archives in Germany; and community media in Ireland; articles on patient-centred politics, counter-hegemony and "anti-Germans"; action notes on social movements in Brazil and the Bil’in resistance model; a survey of international labour communication and two interviews; a Russian declaration on politics, knowledge and art; a debate about the interpretation of Solidarnosc in Poland; and book reviews on marketing rebellion, youth politics in 1950s Britain, identity work in social movements and global struggles for democratic media.
