OVERVIEW

The international film festival Siirretyt - Displaced of Siemenpuu Foundation tells countless sad and encouraging stories on the struggles of the people’s movements in developing countries against large scale dams, plantations, mines, industrial estates, oil and gas wells and other so-called development projects. The projects in question have displaced already hundreds of millions of people around the world. According to some assessments, different kinds of developmental projects have caused displacement of ten million people yearly since the 1980’s. The displacement has especially affected the indigenous people of various countries, be it Sami people of Finland or millions of Adivasi people in India. Also their traditional lifestyles that respect the diverse life of the earth have also been displaced in many places. Siemenpuu Foundation has during its nearly 10 years of funding got to know many of these cases through its projects.
